Korean Drama Review: Padam Padam

November 25, 2012 in Drama, Korean Drama

At first, I’m hesitant to watch this Korean Drama because the title , Padam, Padam, the sound of his and her heartbeats” is somehow not interesting to begin with but It makes me curious so i decided to take a look and see what it offers.

A 2011 fantasy melodrama by JTBC starring Jung Woo Sung as Yang Ka Chil , who serves 16 years in prison for a crime that he didn’t commit.  His detention was reduced to twelve years because of being a model inmate but he was sentenced for another four years because he was again framed up.  Before he is supposed to be release, he suffers a near death experience, only with the help of his guardian angel’ Gook-soo (Kim Bum- Boy’s Over Flowers) he was able to survive it and learned about his three miracles.

A month before his release, he was allowed by the Jail Warden along with Gook-so to go out in the city, in the train, he met Jang Ji-na ( Han Ji- min – Yi San , Rooftop Prince)  in unexpected and awkward situation.  Roaming around the city, he saw his old acquaintance who is also one of the key people who knew about the incident back on his youth and while running Yang Ka Chil was bumped by a car.

Korean Drama – I miss you- Missing you

November 11, 2012 in Drama, Korean Drama, Korean Drama I Love

Yoon Eun Hye is back after doing 2011, The Black Little Dress and the sensational Lie To Me, now she is paired with Korean’s Hearthrob Park Yoo Chun on a romantic melo-dramatic I Miss You, this drama is about a guy and a girl who experienced a painful relationship at their early age of 15 and meet again when they were adult. Hang Jung Woo (Park Yoochun) is a homicide detective and looking for his childhood love Lee So Yeon ( Yoon Eun Hye) who is now a fashion designer who also dreams that her first love was looking for her. Yoo Seung Ho (whom I just watched on Arang and the Magistrate and Operation Proposal) plays a cold-hearted, charismatic fund manager, who tries to take revenge on Han Jung Woo because of the troubled relationship within their family.

I miss you- korean drama

Scheduled to premiere on November 7, 2012, I Miss You replaced Arang and the Magistrate (whom i recently finished watching) and will definitely make YooChun and Eun Hye’s fans very anxious.  When I watched Lie To me and the Rooftop Prince, i thought it’s nice to pair up this two great Korean actor and actress because they show resemblance on different ways, sweet, bubbly and eyes who speaks their emotional feelings and when I have heard that they are finally having this drama, it made me curious because instead of funny and bubbly romantic /comedy drama, Eun Hye is doing something different from her character on Coffee Prince and Princess Hours and Yoonchun’s Sungkyunkwan Scandal and, Rooftop Prince this just show that they are indeed ready for a more serious roles.  I just hope that this one got a good romantic ending not like the other Korean Drama’s I’ve watched were the main lead died or was separated with each other.

Yoon Eun Hye , Park Yoochun and Yoo Seung Ho

I’m not really into heavy drama because it breaks my heart but this is definitely on my lists of Must watch KDrama.

My Secret Love – Sungkyunkwan Scandal Review and Spoiler

October 30, 2012 in Drama, Featured Post, Korean Drama, Korean Drama I Love

Sungkyunkwan scandal – secret love – korean drama

A korean historical fiction romantic drama that will surely makes you smile and forgt your problems for a while.  I find watching Korean drama relaxing and entertaining because there story is not just interesting but something different from the usual drama i used to watch in local channels.

One of the Korean Drama that i so like is 2010  Sungkyunkwan Scandal or locally sub titled as Secret Love starring one of Korean heartthrob and sought actor Park Yuchun (Rooftop Prince, Attic Prince) , beautiful actress Park Min Young ( City Hunter) and another korean actor,  Yoo Ah In (Fashion King).

The story was set on an era where women is not allowed to be educated or working.  A young girl Kim Yoon Hee ( Park Min Young) disguise himself as a man (pretends to be his brother) to work in a world for men alone.  Because of her desire to make their life differently after the death of her father and to give support to her ailing brother.  She works in a local bookstore until she was given a big job to be a substitute test taker  for those who wanted to study at Sungkyunkwan University.  She was accidentally chosen to study in the famous school which was strictly open for boys and unexpectedly paired up in the same room with two boys Lee Sun Joon and Moon Jae Shin whom she had previously encountered in a separate occasion.

While on the university, there are some incidents that compromise her disguise but she eventually pulled it through with the help of her room mates.  On the process, she falls in love with the upright Lee Sun Joon and in the same way, Lee Sun Joon felt a different feeling for her with thoughts that she was indeed a man.

In one instance, they were able to uncover the truth on how her father and Moon Jae Shin brother died and the involvement of Lee Sun Joon father that leads to different unexpected events that compromises her status and life with the class president Ha in Soo (Jun Tae Soo) wanting to expel her in the university.

romantic moments in secret love

As the story goes, her disguise was unexpectedly unravel by her room mates and Lee Sun Joon find himself more in love with her and will do things to protect her from people who vows to destroy her reputation and her life even if this takes to defies his own father.  They made an investigation leading to a more revelations with the king sacrificing his own desire to save Kim Yoon He and to cover the truth.

Although, it’s a fiction story, the ending was quite satisfying with both Kim and Lee still working for Sungkyunkwan as a teacher/mentor for new generation of students and would often seen quarreling with their different point of views but the story closes with the scene showing that their love was consummated as they become husband and wife.

What i love with their character is the fact that although it’s a cute romantic drama, it was not over acting and the cat and dog fights scene comes naturally.  The action scene are not overly done and you can see that it is not as brutal as you could imagine.  Although, at first, i don’t see Park Yu Chun and Park Min Young chemistry with each other unlike Park Min Young portraying Kim NAna in City Hunter along side with Lee Min Ho, but in this drama, they were able to pull their character through and they blended naturally making the whole series something worthy for viewers to look forward on every episode.  No wonder, i have watched it twice already.

Taiwan Drama – In Time With You

August 13, 2012 in Drama, Taiwan Drama & Comedy

True love is hard to find but what if you’re just blind to see that it was just within your reach all this time.

In time with you is a story of a long time friends, Ariel Lin and Berlin Chen are the made lead of the story, they were high school classmates and rivals in class presidency.  They were not friends until they have reached their college years.  Now that they are both professional.  Ariel successfully working as a Division chief in a shoe company while Berlin Chan as a supervisor in an airline company, they maintain their friendships and closeness over the years.

At the 30th birthday of Ariel Lin, they both bet that whoever get married first will win a certain amount.  Because of her proud and powerful nature, Ariel seems hard to find someone who could withstand her but as days goes by Ariel finds a boyfriend (an old acquaintance) who seems to love her and willing to marry her.

But there were times that she doubted her feelings and imagine her future life.  In this she sees her life with his current boyfriend in a big house but when she looks on the other side, she found herself in a small room with Berlin besides her which makes her more confused about her real feelings.  But she still accepted the marriage proposal of his boyfriend thinking that Berlin would never see her other than being best friend.

Ariel Lin and Bolin Chen for In Time With You

At the night of her despedida party, her high school friends confessed and gave a tape with a song composed and sang by Berlin obviously intended for her.  At that time, she realizes that she loves Berlin a long time ago but seized to see it.  Will they love prosper,  well, we all hope so.

Interesting as it sees, I fave KDrama but Ariel Lin is one of my fave taiwanese drama actress since her It started with a kiss days, i find her really cute but now seeing her with Berlin, i really thought they are indeed a good match for dramas like this.  No wonder there team up clicked and they have done the movie , Love Sick which is indeed nice too ( a review soon).

If the world will end today, who would you like to be with?

So, beside Mike He, Joe Cheng, Berlin or Bolin Chen is indeed on my lists of hot Taiwanese male actors.  What do you think?

The Last Scandal of my Life-Remembering Cho Jin-Sil

July 3, 2012 in Actor/Actress Profile, Drama, Entertainment

I have already seen the dvd a dozen time but the picture doesn’t really interests me so i skipped buying it but when i’m searching about some of the best Korean Dramas, The Last Scandal of my Life appears on different sites as one of the Best Korean Dramas of 2008 and that interests me and sparks my curiosity to watch it.

The Kdrama evolves on the story of a happy go lucky but with a strong personality, housewife “Hong Sun-hee” who lives her life supporting her daughter because her husband was always not at home and tricks her to get a divorce so he can marries a richer woman because of his ranking debt.  Hong Sun Hee accidentally meets her classmate and first love , Jang Dong-chul (Jung Joon Ho) who happens to be a well known actor who pretends that he is on his early 30′s.

Because she needed money for her to support her daughter, she accepted the job of being a nanny in Song Jae-bin’s house and this is the time were they realized that there is still love in their hearts,  even after 20 years.  But just like in any other drama, it is not always happy times, there were a scene when a former love of Song Jae Bin appears and try to threaten their relationship by telling the truth that Xun  was indeed Jae Bin son. The drama ends well where Song Jae-bins eventually fight for his love and Hong Sun Hee accepted him and they were eventually married.

The Last Scandal of My Life

Many commented that the drama starts low and the actress, Cho Jin Sil overly acted on the first few scenes.  I guess, there are some scene that the actors did not really shine but if you would watch the drama from beginning to it’s end, you will appreciate it and will eventually felt something.

I have read that the drama was very successful and talks were made to have a second season or what we called part II but an unexpected event happened wherein actress, Cho Jin-Sil takes her on life and committed suicide on the bathroom of her own room where she shares with her mother and her two children.

On a personal level, it makes me sad to learn that a talented actress and a struggling mother of two would eventually end her life because of public ridicule and defamation that causes her great pressure and stress. I believe that Cho Jin-Sil is a victim of an old society who believes that single mom is not capable of being strong.   According to Times, Cho Jin-Sil Choi spoke openly on the taboo topic and sought to change the unpopular public perception of single moms in South Korea. “Korean society does not like strong women, and thinks single moms have a personality disorder,” says Park Soo Na, a national entertainment columnist.”

The news said that Choi had killed herself “in a momentary impulse”  because of great pressure and broken heart because of the rumors that spread all over the net that her good friend, Ahn Jae Hwan killed himself because he was not able to pay his debt were netizens says that Choi was the cause of this death because he was  indeed a loan shark which driven a fellow actor, Ahn Jae Hwan, to kill himself.

A very sad truth if I may say, Choi is considered as Angelina Jolie or Julia Roberts of South Korea having done numerous movies and television acting.  For 20 years, she was he country’s cinematic sweetheart and as close to being a “national” actress but this ended when she was found dead hanging on her bath tub on October 2, 2008. But before her death, she suffered for four years finding her tracks on showbiz after her divorce, because many companies were still reluctant to give prominent roles to single mother.

With her beautiful performance on this Kdrama, she won , 2008 MBC Broadcasting Award: Best Contribution Award and Drama Series Top Excellence Award for Actress  wherein she was not able to receive personally because of her untimely death.

I could never imagine that Korea would be as sensitive and closed on the issue of single parents considering the fact that they allow divorce on their law.  If they really value the family, or having a complete family, they would have never allow divorce in the first place but I always have a soft opinion regarding divorce.  For me, if the marriage could not really work and you are being beaten (like what had happened to Cho Jin-Sil)  it is just a right attitude to seek on your own, a family that will love you no matter what. it is just too sad that a beautiful , talented and strong woman would just eventually become weaker because of a story that should not be talked in the first place.

Divorce has been a major talk in the Philippines for so long, people are still having second thoughts on accepting it and I guess, there are many conservatives that still don’t believe about divorce.

the last scandal of my life

The suicide of Cho Jin-Sil is indeed the last scandal of her life.  True sad because unlike on the story of her KDrama  which gives her a happy ending, her life ends with problems, dismay, frustrations that lead to her death.

Korean Drama Review: Attic Prince/Rooftop Prince

June 24, 2012 in Drama, Korean Drama, Korean Drama I Love, Television Drama Review

Rooftop Prince Poster

When I have read the synopsis of the Attic Prince, I told myself that I really need to grab a copy of this KDrama.  I’m not really a fan of Park Yoochun (Micky)  but I do like his portrayal in  Sungkyunkwan Scandal rather than the latest Ms. Ripley which ending is such a waste.

Being a member of the famous Korean Pop Band JYJ, many korean drama addicts are surely interested on seeing him appear on another Kdrama.  The story evolves on a journey of love and betrayal as  Crown Prince Lee Gak (Micky) solves the murder case of the Crown Princess.  In his quest to find the culprits, he  traveled in the present Seoul (300 Years later).  He accidentally landed on the rooftop apartment of Park Ha ( who looks like the Crown Princess sister, Bu Yong) Han Ji Min.

Park Ha agrees to educate the Prince and his entourage on the life of the 21st century.  Lee Gak meet Hong Se Na , who looks like the reincarnation of his wife, the Crown Princess.  Lee Gak takes the identity of Yong Tae Yong who everybody thought died two years ago.  As Lee Gak unsolved the mystery of the murder of Tae Yong, he also unravel the mystery of the death of the Crown Princess and learned the fact that who died in the Joseon Era is not the Crown Princess but Bu Yong after she ate the poisonous dried persimmon which was intended for the Crown Prince.

On the process, Lee Gak realized that he was sent to the present not to find the Crown Princess but to learn his true love for the Crown Princess sister (Bu Yong) whom from the start was in love with him ( she confessed her love through a death letter).

Yoochun for Attic Prince

The drama series was written to let the viewer see that what destiny and true love means.  True loves knows time and place and even if you will be reincarnated after 300 years, the one that was destined for you will be your one true love. That’s the main reason why when Tae Yong see Park Ha in New York , he immediately felt something for her and that love could have been consummated but for some reason, Tae Yong goes to coma for Lee Gak to realize his love to Bu Yong which was reincarnated as Park Ha.

As Lee Gak went home on the Joseon Era, Tae Yong awaken on his coma which proves that Tae Yong souls was Lee Gak all alone.  The only sad thing on it is the thought that Lee Gak had to live alone in Joseon with his feelings and memories of Bu Yong (Park Ha) until he died and reincarnated 300 years after.  Park Ha on the other hand did not suffer much long considering the fact that after she died, she was reincarnated after 300 years to find the love he had for Lee Gak.

To sum it all, the drama was written and directed beautifully.  Although, there are many korean dramas that I have watched before, this one is a must see. Some plots are funny and can give warm feelings on your heart and the love story will be perfected with time.

Best Drama Addict

June 21, 2012 in Drama, Featured Post, Korean Drama I Love

Korean, Taiwanese, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, Mexican and even Filipino dramas. I guess, drama series are really addicting.

My husband told me that if there was an award that I am very capable to receive is being a , certified “Korean drama addict” because of my korean dvd collections.  To date, i have 95 , korean, taiwanese and some chinese drama series but most of them are really koreans.  I even told my husband that it was not even hundreds, so i could not really say that I’m an addict (LOL). Maybe, i can agree with him when it pass my bench mark of 100 dvd’s.

dvd series collection

And the fact, that it was not even a year before I started buying, collecting and watching it.  Although, I can still remember the mexican telenovelas before.  Yes, i am one of the most avid fan of Thalia , do you remember her Marimar, Rosalinda, Maria la Del Barrio days and do you still remember “Gata Salvaje” were the main lead actress name was “Rosaura” (which happens to be my surname.  Well, i guess, it really runs from my blood to be a drama addict.

Korean drama’s are really beautiful although some of them are heart breaking and some are really frustrating.  (Could you imagine watching 20 episodes giving you sleepless night, only to find out that the lead character will die or sometimes, they would not end up together.  Oh, it was a very frustrating time for me but i guess, it’s just very natural for Korean dramas to have an ending like that.  If that was a shown in the Philippines, there would really be drastic and violent reactions.

So, what do you think, am I really addicted to drama?  What korean drama have you watched?  I bet you also have your favorites.  You can find some of my reviews on the right sidebar of this site.  I hope i can find some time to review all of the dramas i have watched.

What I am Watching: Attic Prince – Actor preview Park Yoochun

June 19, 2012 in Drama, Korean Drama, Korean Drama I Love, Television shows

Park YooChun for Attic Prince

Park Yoochun or simply Micky, is a famous korean actor and singer and member of JYJ.  As a singer, he had written several songs that becomes popular in South Korea and Japan. His debut drama is the Sungkyunkwan Scandal which received numerous and tremendous loved from the audiences.

He also starred in the MBC drama Miss Ripley opposite another famous korean actress, Lee Da Hae where he also won the “Best Newcomer” for his role as Yutaka.

Although, this is not his first award because he received the Rookie of the Year Award, Netizens Award and Best Couple Award in 2010 for his portrayal of a wealthy and studious nobleman who falls in love with his schoolmate (a true woman disguised as a man so she can study in the famous Sunkyunkwan University).  This Baeksang Arts Awards is the most prestigious entertainment awards in South Korea.  Aside from this, he also won “Best Actor and Most Popular Asian Actor” at the 6th Seoul International Drama Awards in the same year.

Now, he is back in another worth watching comedy-drama Rooftop Prince or some other called Attic Prince opposite Han Ji Min.   He will be portraying as  Lee Gak, a Joseon era prince who in search for her crown princess travels in time 300 years to the present day.  Rooftop prince started airing in South Korea on  March 21, 2012 and ended in May 24, 2012.

Micky or Yoochun has become one of the few actors in South Korea who had acted in dramas for each of the countries major broadcast networks, mainly, KBS, MBC and now SBS.

He recently won,   ”Most Popular Actor in TV Drama” at the 48th Baeksang Arts Awards, crowning him as the most popular actor for two years in row.

With this impressive lists of Yoochun, Attic Prince is indeed one of Korean Drama Series to watch for.

Stay tune for a terrific review about Attic Prince.  I am already halfway finish. Would it be better than The King which story is also about a prince in love.  Who do you think is much better Park Yoochun or Lee Seung Gi?
