Movie Review – If Only

September 2, 2012 in Movie Review, Movies

If Only you could turn back time, what would you do to change the past?  If Only is a 2004 american movie starring Jennifer Love Hewitt and Paul Nicholls.  This is one of the few movies of Jennifer Love Hewitt’s that i so love.

The story is about a young English businessman who lives with his musician girlfriend in London.  While Jennifer shows her love, he seems to dwell in his own career.  He takes her for granted and unfortunately forget the big details in their relationship.  He was unsure on how to show his love and a taxi driver reminds him to just love her.

One night, they had a big fight and while trying to reconcile with her, she runs outside and immediately ride a taxi, the same taxi he had taken a day before.  He runs toward him to make amends but a tragedy happens that eventually killed her.

The next day, the same events happened in their life as nothing had happened but he immediately realized that this things lead to what had happened before.  He told her about the incident but she reassure him that it was just a dream.

Do we really need one tragedy to remember that we need to treasure what we have in our life today?  This story reminds me that even with the difficulties of life, we should treasure the one we have because losing them can just bring us more.

But just like any sad stories, Ian was able to show his true love for her.  At the same event, when she rides a taxi, she beckons Ian to sit beside her and they kissed.  At the same time and same place where the accident happen, a twist of event happened and he takes the death that should have been for her.

Honestly, we don’t know how it would happen but if you believe in premonition, you could possibly changed the event.  If you watched the 2007 movie of Sandra Bullock “premonition”, you would probably understand how it works.

This story shows where someone realizes his shortcomings, his losses and instead of losing her, he dies in the end. It is just saying that instead of living all your life in grief, you would just accept the fact that you will instead die on the process.

I never liked watching sad movies because it breaks my heart and make me cry so wild but i guess, this is just one of the movie that i don’t want to pass because it fires up the romantic side of me.  I recommend this film for people who is a romantic at heart and can able to stand death and losing.

The Avengers “Marvel’s Best”

May 5, 2012 in Featured Post, Movie Review, Movies

The Avengers

Just like millions of die hard Marvel fans.  I would not let this great movie to pass by.

Before this movie was shown, preparations have been laid along the way.  Five movie installment featuring the different hero of The Avengers have previously  shown, Iron Man (2008), The Incredible Hulk (2008), Iron Man 2 (2010), Thor (2011) andCaptain America: The First Avenger (2011). In the four movies you can see  Nick Fury trying to enlist in his SHIELD organization the main lead.

Although, i’m not a real fan of “The Avengers”, (i prefer X-men which happens to be another work of Marvel) i must say that the movie indeed impressed me in some ways.

The Avengers also known as Marvel Avengers Assemble stars  Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans,Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, and Cobie Smulders.  The movie shows Nick Fury recruiting  Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Captain America to form a team that must stop Thor’s brother Loki from enslaving the human race.

The movie starts with Loki taking the Tesseract, and uses his abilities to control the minds of several S.H.I.E.L.D. personnel including agent Clint Barton(Hawk Eye) and physicist consultant Dr. Erik Selvig to aid him to open the gate for the  alien conqueror who, in exchange for the Tesseract, offers Loki an army of the alien race called the Chitauri in order for him to subjugate Earth.?

The movie shows how “The Avengers” was formed beginning with the usual cat and dog  arguments of the main lead with the death of Coulson, Fury used this event to motivate the team to work as one.

Earning a 96% , an average of 8/10 at Rotten Tomatoes.com, this movie was indeed a must see for all ages.  The average comic story was well compensated with witty dialogues and a script that will make you laugh, marvel and understand the whole essence of the movie.

The movie gives a well balance presentation for each super hero, giving them a due credit which each character do deserves.  The cinematography was indeed amazing thus even a non-die hard comic fan like me would love and be charmed.

As enormous as the production might be, the appeal of the ensemble cast was indeed marvelous  and I could not get enough of them.  When i watched Captain America’s (Chris Evans) initial movie, i thought that his story was indeed not as I expected it to be (i even commented that it’s good that i haven’t watched it in the big screen as it would be a waste of money, it’s not that i don’t like the actor but it just doesn’t  meet my expectation).  But in this movie, i felt that he was a different super hero, a true leader in a sense and a mighty one to sum it all. (Chris Evans who happens to portray Human Torch in Fantastic Four 2005 and 2007 is signed up to have 2 sequels for Captain America)

Chris Hemsworth, (older brother of Liam Hemsworth)  who plays  Thor in the movie was too handsome for you not to notice.  His next movie “Snow white and the huntsman” would surely be in my list of movie to watch.

Thor and Loki

Tony Stark’s better known as Iron Man portrayed by Robert Downey, Jr gives justice to the movie, giving his signature playboy appeal and a wit and expertise for the cause.

I have no idea why Black Widow (Natasha Romanoff) Scarlett Johansson  character was in the movie considering that in the comic version she came rather late.  Scarlet witch or The wasp should have entered first but i don’t know why they were not included (maybe on the next part perhaps).

Hulk portrayal in this movie made the biggest impression on me.  I don’t know if they just intended it to be funny and witty but it does caught the eye of not just me but most of the moviegoers.  For an instant, his dramatic entrance on a rugged motorcycle while in the middle of a super hero /alien war is just too promising and just like when he suddenly punch Thor to give him the sign that he was indeed the mighty one after all.  Just i don’t know why suddenly he knows how to control his power but that would be another story, i guess.

Thor (getty image)

What i love most is the battle which occupies most of the film’s final half hour which the different marvel heroes talents works hand in hand.  In addition to Iron Man sacrificing himself going to the outer space to deal with the missile while Hawkeye  (Jeremy Renner) holding a high-tech bow and arrow  shows his prolific talent and strength.

The Avengers” was done with style, humor and a movie worth waiting and just like everybody who watches the movie, “i could not wait for the next installment” which news says would happen in 2014.  Joss Whedon  deserves a  double thumbs up!

One Tree Hill Final Episode

April 5, 2012 in Drama, Movies, Television shows

After 9 years on television screen, One Tree Hill is saying their good bye.   I could remember that i used to watch this television series and my week would not be complete if i missed it.

One Tree Hill

Last night, April 4, the cast and crews had finally said their final and emotional series finale with a teary eyed conclusions of their bizarre life of trials and problems.  The show started with the story of two half brothers,  Nathan and Lucas Scott – played by James Lafferty and Chad Michael Murray competing with love, school, honor and fame.

I have no idea how the show goes, after watching 4 season, (that’s four years I think) I felt that it already consume my emotions and my troubled life. So,  I decided to let it go and look for something light and fresh television series.

With new cast coming on the show, I rarely had the chance to check it out but considering that they had made it to season 9, that is quite an achievement and the cast and crew  would surely miss each other.

Murray and Burton declining to return on the seventh season change the plot and the show had another two beautiful casts to add on the drama. Bethany Joy Lenz and Sophia Bush came into the scene and set the fire for another two years until the end finale.

Rooney Mara- Teenage beauty to freaking hot

February 1, 2012 in Actor/Actress Profile, Celebrity, Entertainment, Movies

rooney mara

Petite, simple and pretty, that’s the best word to describe this picture of a young lady.  Rooney Mara was once known with her

I could not imagine the transformation they made for her to become the lead actress in 2011 movie starring Daniel Craig ” The girl with the dragon tattoo” .  How would you react if you see a girl with beautiful locks and pretty smile turned in front of you naked with fierce and tattooed body?

I bet my grandma will surely raise her eyebrows.  I have not dared having a tattoo  even i wanted , when she was still alive because I am afraid that might she had an early heart attack.

Honestly, I don’t have the guts to change my image that’s why I really admire the guts of this girl, doing all this transformation for her movie and eventually to boost her career in Hollywood.  After all, we are talking Hollywood here and what she does has really paid off.  She was even ranked No. 3 in Askmen (online magazine) 99 Women of 2012.

Obviously her transformation is a huge success and she even had her first Oscar nomination,  but this lady claims that she’s not comfortable with it,

She says she needed to  overhauled her wardrobe because she “stopped feeling comfortable” in her everyday clothes.

“My wardrobe has completely changed. It had to, partly because of my hair and partly because I stopped feeling comfortable in what I used to wear,” she told Britain’s Style magazine.

But who is Rooney Mara?

Well, that’s just a glimpse of what we will see from her.  The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a trilogy and with its first film a wide success, we are very sure that the director is already planning for the second installment.

Kate Beckinsale – Underworld: Awakening 2012

January 15, 2012 in Entertainment, Movies

Kate Beckinsale who made her film debut in Much Ado about nothing is reprising her role in Underworld.  The first installation was shown last 2003 and gave Beckinsale the reputation as an action star.

In this 4th film of Underworld: AwakeningKate Beckinsale, star of the first two films, returns in her lead role as the vampire warrioress Selene, who escapes imprisonment to find herself in a world where humans have discovered the existence of both Vampire and Lycan clans, and are conducting an all-out war to eradicate both immortal species. (Screen Gems )

Six months after the events of Underworld: Evolution, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) was captured by humans. Eventually both government officials and the public learn about the existence of the two immortal species of Vampires and Lycans (Werewolves). A crusade and all-out war has begun: study and eradicate. After being imprisoned in cryogenic suspension for 12 years, Selene manages to escape the facility.

This will be another sure hit movie and I just can’t wait to watch it.  Catch the movie on your local cinema this January, 2012. Although, I am an addict of  movie drama, action and suspense is also on of my favorites, I have watch the three films of Underworld and this next installment I believe will match the other films.
