Korean Drama Review: Attic Prince/Rooftop Prince

Rooftop Prince Poster

When I have read the synopsis of the Attic Prince, I told myself that I really need to grab a copy of this KDrama.  I’m not really a fan of Park Yoochun (Micky)  but I do like his portrayal in  Sungkyunkwan Scandal rather than the latest Ms. Ripley which ending is such a waste.

Being a member of the famous Korean Pop Band JYJ, many korean drama addicts are surely interested on seeing him appear on another Kdrama.  The story evolves on a journey of love and betrayal as  Crown Prince Lee Gak (Micky) solves the murder case of the Crown Princess.  In his quest to find the culprits, he  traveled in the present Seoul (300 Years later).  He accidentally landed on the rooftop apartment of Park Ha ( who looks like the Crown Princess sister, Bu Yong) Han Ji Min.

Park Ha agrees to educate the Prince and his entourage on the life of the 21st century.  Lee Gak meet Hong Se Na , who looks like the reincarnation of his wife, the Crown Princess.  Lee Gak takes the identity of Yong Tae Yong who everybody thought died two years ago.  As Lee Gak unsolved the mystery of the murder of Tae Yong, he also unravel the mystery of the death of the Crown Princess and learned the fact that who died in the Joseon Era is not the Crown Princess but Bu Yong after she ate the poisonous dried persimmon which was intended for the Crown Prince.

On the process, Lee Gak realized that he was sent to the present not to find the Crown Princess but to learn his true love for the Crown Princess sister (Bu Yong) whom from the start was in love with him ( she confessed her love through a death letter).

Yoochun for Attic Prince

The drama series was written to let the viewer see that what destiny and true love means.  True loves knows time and place and even if you will be reincarnated after 300 years, the one that was destined for you will be your one true love. That’s the main reason why when Tae Yong see Park Ha in New York , he immediately felt something for her and that love could have been consummated but for some reason, Tae Yong goes to coma for Lee Gak to realize his love to Bu Yong which was reincarnated as Park Ha.

As Lee Gak went home on the Joseon Era, Tae Yong awaken on his coma which proves that Tae Yong souls was Lee Gak all alone.  The only sad thing on it is the thought that Lee Gak had to live alone in Joseon with his feelings and memories of Bu Yong (Park Ha) until he died and reincarnated 300 years after.  Park Ha on the other hand did not suffer much long considering the fact that after she died, she was reincarnated after 300 years to find the love he had for Lee Gak.

To sum it all, the drama was written and directed beautifully.  Although, there are many korean dramas that I have watched before, this one is a must see. Some plots are funny and can give warm feelings on your heart and the love story will be perfected with time.

The King 2 Hearts

June 17, 2012 in Drama, Entertainment, Korean Drama, Television Drama Review

Also known as The King.  The King 2 Hearts was top billed by Ha Ji Won ( Secret Garden) as Captain Kim Hang Ah and singer-actor Lee Seung Gi ( My girlfriend is a nine tail fox (gumiho) as Lee Jae Ha.   The series was aired by MBC from  March 21 to May 24, 2012.

The story was set in a modern South Korea and North Korea in time where descendants of Jonseon Dynasty rules the land.  Lee Jae Ha is a young crown prince who  acts carelessly, irresponsible without minding  politics and living a materialistic and charismatic life due to his reluctance to take in the throne.  When his brother ascended to the throne , he lives a playboy lifestyle.

The present Emperor (his brother) thought of a plan to teach his brother responsibility and  to help him grow up. The emperor tricked Lee Jae Hae to join the WOC  organized by the North Korean Military Command.  However, considering his attitude the members of the north korean command led by Captain King Hang Ah find him a royal pain in the ass.

Just like some other romatic story.  Prince Lee Jae Ha and Captain Kim Hang Ah love story is like dog and cats on a fight but as days goes by, both of them falls in love with each other.  The Emperor thought that Captain Hang Ah is the suitable wife for the prince, he made it to the news that the prince is engaged to be married to Captain Hang Ah.   Jae ha on the denial of his true feelings eventually confessed his love to Hang Ah through a public announcement to ease the political fire targeted towards the Emperor.

Captain King Hang Ah and Prince Lee Jae Ha was engaged and their relationship that was once a marriage of convenience turned into a more deeper romantic relationship.   But later Prince Jae Ha found himself in a bigger mess upon the assassination of the Royal Couple.  He was now crowned as the King of South Korea and must act maturely with responsibility considering that his throne and his family is in the bridge of falling apart and facing the news that his future wife (North Koreans) might be responsible with the assassination of the former king.  Succumbing to clever deceitful persuasion from His (the King’s) most trusted old advisor, Hang Ah was forced to go on with public persecution.  This starts the problem with the two lovers as the strained Hang Ah spoke harsh words to Prince Jae Ha forcing the immature prince to send him back to his native land.

Although with regrets and deep contemplation, King Jae Ha stay firms with his decision and determined to catch the real antagonist which happens to be the head of the Club M  until a public news from North Korea stating that Hang Ah suffered a miscarriage.

Not minding the possible outcome, King Jae Ha insists on visiting Captain Hang Ah on the hope of gaining her trusts back and winning her heart again.

Although the story is a little bit unrealistic, I find it truly entertaining and interesting considering the fact that the story tackles sensitive issues regarding North Korea and South Korean problems which is really happening even today. It was a great effort for the writer to come up to a well -organized plot that made both of the two separate countries bind in unity through the marriage of the King of South Korea and an army captain of North Korea.

King 2 Hearts

What I specifically like the drama,   is the part at the time the American troops is ready to make war with the North Korea and the North Korea is planning to attack back to the South.  The king for his love to Captain Ah thought of a plan to eventually stop the Americans by announcing to the world that they are getting married on the very same day that the American is planning the attack.   Although the Head of North Korea is against the idea, he was eventually persuaded due to a heart catching event that you need to watch for.   The marriage scene can be seen wherein King Jae Ha fetch Captain Ah on the boarder of the two countries and the two walk through the boarder going to the South.

Although, i am not really a fan of Lee Seung Gi, i found him really different in this drama. On the other hand, Ha Ji Won as usual gave a praised worthy performance. Her character as a North Korean sniper was different from her other drama but her fans would surely love her on the action scene she had in this movie.  The whole drama was filled with romantic scene that can melt your  heart.

Is she really dreaming? Watch the drama to find the answer.

King 2 Hearts first kiss

This is the second time, i have watched a korean drama which involves a love story between a North Korean woman and a South Korean man.   I really do hope that the tensions between the two countries can be resolve.

Do watch the trailer below.

Love Keeps Going

May 20, 2012 in Taiwan Drama & Comedy, Television Drama Review

Aside from It started with a kiss, meteor garden and rainie yang television dramas.  I am now caught in between taiwanese and korean dramas.  Honestly, i love korean dramas more because their language is like a music in my ear.  Taiwanese and chinese speaks so fast and there is a certain tone that sometimes I don’t like to hear but watching several taiwanese dramas made me realize that they are indeed beautiful, charismatic and with substance.

Just like this taiwanese drama, “Love Keeps going” based from a taiwanese novel starring the beautiful Cyndi Wang (who i think looks like Christine Reyes) and the handsome Mike He.

Love Keeps Going- taiwanese drama

This drama was shown in taiwan tv on June , 2011 and ended in August 2011.  Just imagine the period of airing.  Honestly, I finished the whole series in one and a half day.  (Whooah)

The story revolves around the main character Zha Mei Le (Cyndi Wang) which portray a hardworking, industrious and humble woman who loves to help just everybody.  She has a collection of different certificates from different studies. This is a result of her hard worked and passion to develop skills because of a past incident when she accidentally heard the conversation of her parents when the latter goes through a divorce.

He met her boyfriend , Han Yi Feng (Eli Shih) as a result of helping him and his future in laws, including the mother and sister of his boyfriend shows great admiration to her because of her generous nature and natural abilities.  She eventually achieve the dream of Yi Feng to open and run a bakery.

Things were running smoothly but because of the unexpected money problem with his brother, he needs to seek help with Yi Feng’s spoiled, rich and famous Han Yi Lei (Mike He) who also had a personal problem with his family.

The problem begins when Lei had a terrible impression on her but with her willingness and determination, she was able to persuade Lei and even made him unexpectedly and unnoticed that Lei have  fallen in love with her.

Yi Feng and Mei Le are supposed and engaged to be married, however a cruel twist of fate and realization turned Yi Feng to have a change of heart and fall for another woman (who also happens to be a cashier in their bakery) Han Yi Lei eventually helped her to heal her broken heart and in the process she learned that she indeed love Lei more than Yi Feng.

Just when they are starting their love affair, an unexpected series of event and health problems befall Yi Lei and made him choose to let go of Mei Le.  Will he survive, will their love  help them to keep on going?  Watch the drama to find out the answer.

I am sure, it will leave you teary eyed and yes, you will ask yourself.  Can i make this sacrifice for my love one?  Would I be willing to hold on or should i just let go.  This is indeed one beautiful series you should not miss and Mike He is indeed very handsome especially in this titillating bed scene.
