Movie Review – If Only

If Only you could turn back time, what would you do to change the past?  If Only is a 2004 american movie starring Jennifer Love Hewitt and Paul Nicholls.  This is one of the few movies of Jennifer Love Hewitt’s that i so love.

The story is about a young English businessman who lives with his musician girlfriend in London.  While Jennifer shows her love, he seems to dwell in his own career.  He takes her for granted and unfortunately forget the big details in their relationship.  He was unsure on how to show his love and a taxi driver reminds him to just love her.

One night, they had a big fight and while trying to reconcile with her, she runs outside and immediately ride a taxi, the same taxi he had taken a day before.  He runs toward him to make amends but a tragedy happens that eventually killed her.

The next day, the same events happened in their life as nothing had happened but he immediately realized that this things lead to what had happened before.  He told her about the incident but she reassure him that it was just a dream.

Do we really need one tragedy to remember that we need to treasure what we have in our life today?  This story reminds me that even with the difficulties of life, we should treasure the one we have because losing them can just bring us more.

But just like any sad stories, Ian was able to show his true love for her.  At the same event, when she rides a taxi, she beckons Ian to sit beside her and they kissed.  At the same time and same place where the accident happen, a twist of event happened and he takes the death that should have been for her.

Honestly, we don’t know how it would happen but if you believe in premonition, you could possibly changed the event.  If you watched the 2007 movie of Sandra Bullock “premonition”, you would probably understand how it works.

This story shows where someone realizes his shortcomings, his losses and instead of losing her, he dies in the end. It is just saying that instead of living all your life in grief, you would just accept the fact that you will instead die on the process.

I never liked watching sad movies because it breaks my heart and make me cry so wild but i guess, this is just one of the movie that i don’t want to pass because it fires up the romantic side of me.  I recommend this film for people who is a romantic at heart and can able to stand death and losing.
